Are we all Zoomed out? 5 easy fixes to combat your Zoom fever

Tier3 Blog

Are you suffering from a bad case of the zoomies? Symptoms include explosions of energy, furiously running around in circles and profusely barking at your owner…oh no wait, those are the dog zoomies. The human zoomies are when you want to tear your hair out and fake a wifi failure because you simply can’t handle hearing one more person ask if they are on mute or not!

The recent pandemic has made working remotely more common than ever, which means video calls and telecommuting are the new normal. Here are the most common solutions to problems users are experiencing. Following these quick fixes can help make Zoom calls bearable and maybe even a little enjoyable.

Main Issues: No video or audio output, audio echoes, Zoom lag or Zoom crash

Solutions

#1: Try a test call

If you are joining an important meeting and want to test out your settings, you can join a test call on the Zoom app to see how your computer is functioning. This will help test your current microphone and camera settings before entering the real chat.

#2: Check your Zoom settings

When you go into your settings, uncheck the following to always join a chat with video and audio.

-Do Not Connect to Audio

-Turn Off My Video

#3: Check your computer settings

The problem isn’t always with Zoom, sometimes it can be with your computer settings. Ensure that you have given all permissions to Zoom in your Windows or IOS and that you have enabled the camera and microphone in your computer settings. You also want to make sure that you have a strong wifi connection and video connections are routed to your webcam and, if necessary, your audio is routed to connected speakers.

#4: Close all other windows and applications.

If you have any bluetooth headphones, or speakers connected your audio might be connected there instead of your built in mic and speakers.

#5: Uninstall Zoom

When all else fails, you can do the equivalent of turning it off and back on again. Simply uninstall Zoom, restart your computer and then reinstall the application.
